Thanksgiving 3BT

Canadian Thanksgiving was a week ago and the picture I took above signifies two ‘beautiful things’ that happened around this holiday.

The first beautiful thing was that I had a Tupperware party a few weeks before Thanksgiving and got over $140 dollars in free Tupperware for being the host – that was pretty cool. The second was that I used my new Tupperware to hold some yummy stuffing that was leftover from our Thanksgiving dinner.

Now for me storage stuff is pretty cool in general, because I’m a great organizer, but when I added delicious Thanksgiving stuffing into the storage container it just became a thing of beauty. Nothing’s better than pulling out some leftover stuffing a few weeks after Thanksgiving and having your fill again of delicious breaded delight. Mmm, good.

The third beautiful thing? Our lovely neighbours invited us over for another Thanksgiving dinner at their house, and we had a great time. Chelsea didn’t want to try the turkey or the potatoes or the yams or the stuffing (but the cranberry sauce was OK), and ended up running around their house like a girl with a mission but no mishaps occurred and the scene was generally contained chaos. Nice.

Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone!

It’s been a while since I did a 3BT post (Three Beautiful Things), so here are some things that I think are pretty great right now. It’s a “my daughter these days” theme, as you can see:

  1. Chelsea has just started trying to walk around in our shoes. At 17 months of age, she just has to do what Mommy and Daddy are doing! When we are about to leave the house to go somewhere, she often gets our shoes for us and will bring them to wherever we are. She also likes to help put shoes away in the closet when we get home.

  2. When I put on music, Chelsea “dances” by whirling around in a circle over and over again.
  3. Chelsea thinks it’s funny to shake and nod her head. How interesting that she “gets” that no is a shake of the head and will do that back to us, but doesn’t seem to be able to nod to us for yes yet. Does that mean we say no to her a little too often? :-)

A 3BT (Three Beautiful Things) post…it’s been a while.

1. Yesterday at one of her meals Chelsea started making fish faces and when I laughed she started doing it more. I laughed and she laughed and oh my gosh it was the best thing.

2. I have over 100 members in my mom and baby meetup group now. Unbelievable! Coordinating the group has opened the way to meeting some really nice women over the past several months. (And of course, their babies too!)

3. I started work this past week and put Chelsea into daycare for her first full day. She had a two and a half hour nap and was pretty great all day, the daycare lady said. Yippee! It’s nice to know she’s happy while I’m at work. And I was happy too. It was great to get back into the office and see all my coworkers. Since I’ll only be part-time I will have the best of both worlds: some adult time, and some baby time too.

It’s been so long since I did a 3BT post I’d have to look up when I last took the time to stop and be thankful for the little things. Here are a few things that made my day.

1. I met up with two other new moms tonight for a dinner out without our husbands or babies. We laughed and laughed. It was so rejuvenating.

2. Every year it is my Christmas baking ‘thing’ – passed on down from my mother – to make gingerbread. Our kind of gingerbread is the good kind, not like the gingerbread that some people try to pass off as tasting good and all you want to do is spit it out. I made the dough for mine tonight, and it is currently sitting in the fridge in all its molasses-y goodness, waiting for me to roll it out and cut it into house walls and a roof tomorrow. (I just hope all the Smarties, Reese’s Pieces and Rosebuds etc that I bought to decorate it last until then!)

3. I was playing the piano for Chelsea today – Christmas carols, the first time of the season – and I looked at her and sang, “Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!” She looked at me and smiled and sang “Hiiiiiiiiiiiii!” right back to me on the same note. I think we have a little singer in our midst!

1. A friend and I had a delicious lunch yesterday at the Blue Crab in Victoria, overlooking the water. A rainbow adorned the sky across the harbour for almost the whole time we were sitting there.

2. Since I’m the pregnant one and I didn’t want to look conspicuous (as in, “Hey, where are the pickles with that?”), I asked my husband to go buy ice cream the other night so we could make sundaes when he got back. (We buy ice cream about twice a year – it’s very unusual.) Turns out he got a comment from a guy in line as he went up to the till with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup and caramel sauce in tow: (“Hey, that looks like it’s really going to be good.”) And my husband laughs, “Yep, my wife’s pregnant, what can I say?” (SOOO glad I didn’t go myself!)

3. My last week of work starts today. It’s sad but exciting at the same time. I’m looking forward to a delicious lunch at Ebizo (my favourite Japanese restaurant), with the person I share my office with and my replacement. Yum, yum!
